About PsyPets

In PsyPets you take care of strange (and cute?)-looking pets, chat with other players, prepare food, collect rare items, build totem poles, build universes, and so so so much more. Started in late March of 2004, PsyPets is the result of 6 years of hobbyist programming, developed in part with player input!

PsyPets is not like other pet games:

  • It's the creation of one guy who just happens to like programming, and is happy to do it for free (though your contributions are always welcome )
  • It's a simulation of "human" behavior. Your pets act based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, personality theory, and common sense; they eat, grow, give birth, and can even die!
  • It's not not for kids (though you must be at least 13 to sign up), but it definitely caters more to 20 and 30-somethings than to young teens.

Requirements to Play

In short, PsyPets is a web browser-based game in which Javascript and cookies are used, but Java and Flash are not. PsyPets has been tested to work on most modern browsers. For more information, visit the Requirements to Play page (on the PsyPets wiki).

And Hey

Thanks a lot for playing! It's cool to see a lot of people getting into a game that I created Have fun!

August's items:

August 2010 Unique Item: OP Hammer

I didn't know what to do for this month's unique item... so I asked someone else [razz] they said "I need my pets to carpenter more", et viola: OP Hammer - a hammer exclusively for carpenters.

It can also be used to give you a smashed glass-lookin' avatar, 'cause why not [razz]

New August Recurring Item: Bubble Wand

Bubble Wand! (That's a summer-time thing, right?)

The Bubble Wand uses soap items (Fire Spice Soap, et al) to change your profile background. Each soap gives a different-colored version of the same bubble background, matching the color of the soap used.

You can also get the title "Bubble-blower" from it, 'cause I keep meaning to put more titles in the game in weird places.

It's also an equipment, or an hourly item for your pets. (Now that I think of it, it can't really be both at once, since an equipped item isn't available for your pets to admire [razz])

Previous August Recurring Item: Augustus

I'd say this is a pun on the month of August, but... [is suspicious]

ANYWAY: Besides being an equipment for conquerors, you can also use it to send your pets on a quest for Rome. Equip the pets you want to send off with wreaths, and watch them go. If they're well-equipped, you'll win Rome!

(This operates similarly to the Bagpipes quest for Caladcholg, for those who are familiar, except you can get as many Romes as you care to go through the trouble for.)

First Ever August Recurring Item: Hungry Chicken

Feed the Hungry Chicken big - BIG - food items for a chance to lay the elusive Crystal Egg or Black-dyed Egg (both available only via the Hungry Chicken). It can lay a variety of other eggs as well.

The Black-dyed Egg can be hatched for a black chick pet:

The Crystal Egg is just pretty and sparkly [razz] (It also looks painful as hell to lay [is suspicious] The Hungry Chicken does not seem to mind, however [razz])
